Beer & Beadz – October 2016

October’s Beer & Beadz was hosted by Kirsten and once again we had another stellar turnout!  It’s great to see so many people turn out to these events and so many that come in from Chilliwack, quite the commute!

The theme was a continuation of the previous months theme.  In September Elisabeth challenged us to plan our designs and work with lots of color.  The inspiration was Desigual with all it’s great colorful patterns.

Several members paired up at that time to design their beads on paper and then follow their pattern when they made the beads.

While this was a tough challenge, it was also very inspiring for several members.  Melanie brought out her collection of fused glass she was inspired to make.  Unfortunately I didn’t get a closeup of her stuff but take my word for it .. it was awesome!

This B&B was also an opportunity to show off our new banner for Bling! as well as hand out posters and postcards for our advertising campaign. I think they turned out great!

Beer & Beadz – September 2016

Our September Beer & Beadz was hosted by Elizabeth Owre.  Once again we had a really good turnout, several coming all the way in from Chilliwack.  The weather held up so we were able to enjoy her beautiful garden patio.

The theme was to create colourful beads inspired by the designs from the spanish clothing brand Desigual.  It was a great challenge for some of us who just sit at the torch and melt glass.  For this challenge you were required to design your bead on paper from beginning to end before going to the torch.

There were very interesting results but what fun.

Our bead exchange was also comprised of bright colourful beads.

This theme will be carried over to the October Beer & Beadz hosted by Kirsten so bring your “designed” beads for show & tell.

Beer & Beadz – August 2016

A great time was had by all that attended August’s B&B.  This outdoor social event was hosted by Joanne and Dave Carter at their home affectionately known as “Carterville”.   Wondering around their property was a treat.  Aside from garages full of fabulous antique cars, Dave’s train motored along the winding tracks laid throughout the gardens.

I was extremely envious of Joanne’s cute cabin studio.  It was nicely laid out to display many of her finished jewellery pieces and tiny flowers in vases.  It has a large picture window bringing in all kinds of natural light.  A perfect showroom for inviting in customers!

Members were encouraged to bring their spouses and many did.  It was a great afternoon just sitting by the pond chatting.

AGM/Beer & Beadz – March 2016

Our Annual General Meeting was hosted by Debbie Armstrong during our March Beer N Beadz event.

We discussed the past years events like the continually growing attendance to our monthly Beer N Beadz. It’s not unusual now to see 10 – 15 members at these events.  In 2015 we also have seen our membership increase by 13 new members. The success and future of Bling – Wearable Art Show & Sale was a hot topic and finally the nominations for our new 2016 Executive.

Say hello to your 2016 Executive

Beer & Beadz – February 2016

February’s Beer & Beadz was hosted by Melanie Graham and there was a good turn out regardless of the nasty conditions outside.

Melanie gave us a tour of your studio and glass storage.  Wow is Melanie ever organized.  As mentioned in the previous newsletter, Melanie is now also selling frit and we got the opportunity to see “the stock”.

One of the things Melanie was very proud to show off was her new ventilation system built by Kirsten’s husband Al.  It is quiet, inexpensive and efficient.  She demo’d some new CIM colors she’s testing and discussed how she stays on task day after day now that she is making beads full time.

The evening ended with a bead exchange.  The theme was “love”, so we were challenged to bring beads that we associated with “love”.  There were plenty of hearts but there were also several “lovely” beads.

Beer & Beadz – January 2016

January’s B&B was hosted by Joanne Andrighetti of Andrighetti Glass and held at the Terminal City Glass Co-op.  It was a full house with 2 glass blowing stations in full use and a staff meeting being held at the other end of the building.

Once again we had a great turn-out by the Pyros membership.  I wish I could’ve gotten pictures of everyone there or a group photo but time and battery life got away from me.  Thank you Diane for your bead photos!

The theme was “round” and we were challenged to bring “round” beads.  We started the evening with a game called “Exquisite Cadaver”.  (here’s a link to the wiki that explains the idea behind this theme https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_corpse).  Each participant starts a bead and that bead gets passed around to the next participant to add to it and then pass it to the next participant.  The beads continue to make the rounds (LOL) around the table until each participant has added to each bead once.  This challenge sounded pretty easy until we were told we only had 60 seconds each time.  Round became a real challenge (LOL).  That said, the beads turned out really nice.

A good time was had by all.
