The Bead Report

by Kerry S. Caron

Beer N Beadz September 2007

This month we congregated at Andrighetti Glass in Vancouver.

 Joanne, our gracious hostess.

Ania came, even with her very sore thumb.

Tamara, looking forward to the night's activities.

Kerri , excited about the night.

Elizabeth, getting ready to watch some demos.

Minori Tagaki heats the glass.

A better shot of Minori's Japanese propane torch.

Here is her beautiful finished bead.

 A collection of Minori's beads.

Alexx Cheng demos on the new Nortel Mega Minor torch.

Alexx says the torch is hotter than the minor.

He shows us how he makes his trademark dichro beads.

He uses a baffle to keep the heat away from his hand.

 Alexx's finished bead.

This is probably the last time we will see Alexx for a long time. He has sold his house on the island and he is moving to Thailand.

Another of Alexx's beads. Take care Alexx, we will miss you.

Kerri Fuhr showed us how she makes a vessel. Make the neck first.

Build disks and then make a hollow right over the end of the mandrel.

Here she shows us how it looks with the hollow over the end of the mandrel. The last step is adding a lip on the neck and handles if you want them.

And the finished vessel. Thanks Kerri, it is beautiful.

Everyone was deep in thought watching the demos.

Michelle Lusk then sat down at the Mega Minor and the stop watch was put on her to see how fast the Queen of hollows could make one.

I clocked her in making this one at 4 min. 45 secs.

She is pretty proud of herself.
