he had me at dichro …

… as told by Silvia McIntosh

There were approximately 25 people that attended Alexx Cheng’s Demo on May 16 at Terminal City Co-op.  Alexx was his usual charismatic self and it was a joy to see his talents at work.  Alexx, always ready with a quick joke was appreciated by all.

In the 2 hours he demonstrated his flower implosion cab which he makes for a ring that he is sells as fundraiser for a school in Thailand.  Many of the attendees, who were recently at the Whistler Molten Experience were wearing these rings.

Alexx shared some of his dichroic tricks as well as how he sets cubic zirconias in glass.  So beautiful!   He demonstrated a small jug with a handle that were made separately and then put together, all in soft glass.   We even had a lesson on the white board – not sure what it was about, but there some laughs and some interesting drawings!  Hmmm

He has promised to visit Canada more often as he will be retiring soon and has a beautiful granddaughter in Ottawa that has captured his heart.

Pacific Pyros at the Fraser Valley Bead Show

Several Pacific Pyros attended the Fraser Valley Bead Show in it’s new location this past weekend (March 27 – 29).  Some of us had a booth while other members came in on Saturday and Sunday to do demos.

We had a sweet location for our demos.  We were setup in the main lobby just before the entrance to the show so traffic was great.  Several people stopped by the demo station to watch our members demonstrate the art of lampwork.  Many of these people took a card and some took a membership applicaton.   I’m pretty sure we signed up a couple of new members.  YAY!

Fraser Valley Bead Show

The Pacific Pyros and the Terminal City Glass Co-Op were invited to set up and demonstrate glass bead making at this year Fraser Valley Bead Show.  The fun began on Friday with Kirsten and Maria taking turns demonstrating their beadmaking skills to groups of bead show guests.  Saturday’s demonstrators were Pat, Melanie, Barb, Kirsten and Debbie and Joanne, Morgan, Debbie and Pat closed the weekend.  There were several sign ups for glass working lessons for both the Pacific Pyros and Terminal City Glass Co-Op.

Several of the Pyros also had booths …

… and some taught classes.  Alicia Champ taught wire wrapping to her class

Once again, thank you to all of you who came by and enjoyed the beadmaking demonstrations and welcome to all of you who are scheduled to take glass working lessons in the near future.

the Reach Gallery

the Reach GalleryThe Reach Gallery Museum in Abbotsford celebrated their 5th Anniversary with a swanky summer soiree.  The date was September 14, 2013.

The Pacific Pyros were invited to demonstrate glass bead making as part of the evenings entertainment.  We previously had our beads and jewelry on display in their gallery so to be invited back was a big deal.

Ania and Alicia spent the evening demonstrating the art of glass beadmaking.  Along with their demonstrations they also made sales and answered questions about glass beadmaking.

The music and atmosphere of the gallery was incredible and the food was lovely.
