WME 2015

Whistler Molten Experience

What a great event!! this year the featured headliner was Heather Trimlett and Beth Williams.  Heather demonstrated oodles of useful techniques such as laying down a perfect footprint of glass, making twisties,  hollow beads and her famous disk bead.  Beth demonstrated how to make beautiful, sparkly dichroic stringers.

Alexx came in from Thailand again this year and once again dazzled us with his not so standard bead making techniques.  You should have seen Heather’s face when Alexx pulled out a spritzer bottle and started spraying his hot bead with water.

Melanie Rowe demo’d mold making using Mold Mix 6, the mold making product she uses for making her beautiful faces.  Deb Tarry demonstrated how to use various molds with boro.

The weather was absolutely awesome!  no rain and lots of sun.  The temperature was upwards of 17C during the height of the day but dropping to zero at night.  Some attendees rented canoes and went paddling on the lake while others took long walks and hikes.  Some of us stopped in at the Spa Scandinav for a bit of relaxation therapy before getting to this WME event.

The schedule was jam packed with flamework demos, mold making demos, wire wrapping lessons, fusing lessons and an open forum on pricing your work.

Everything went very smoothly.  The food was great, the wine was plentiful, the rooms were comfy.  We’re all looking forward to another year of Whistler Molten Experience.

Whistler Molten Experience 2014

Wow! What an “Experience”!

For those of you who couldn’t attend this event, here are some pictures and as much explanation as I can provide.  Hopefully you enjoy them and can feel the experience.

On the weekend of May 2, beadmakers from the Westcoast, BC Interior, Washington, California and even Thailand congregated at the beautiful Edgewater Lodge in Whistler, BC for the 3rd annual Whistler Molten Experience.  The weather was good for the majority of the weekend and no bears were viewed this time.

Every year the event features a Master Glass Beadmaker to demonstrate their techniques and this year the feature glass artist was JC Herrell.  Wow! If you’ve ever seen her beads you’ll understand the Wow!  JC demonstrated a couple of her signature beads while 30+ attendees watched in awe and appreciation of her amazing talent.  I can’t imagine how much I’m going to have to practice in order to do the stringer work she does.  JC is also a very good speaker and she explained everything she was doing as well as why and how.  If you ever get a chance to take one of her classes you shouldn’t hesitate!

The other demonstrators for this event were Debbie Tarry who demo’d her skull marble .. whoa!  so cool.  Even if you don’t like skulls you would enjoy this demo.  Deb explains her techniques, tips & tricks without hesitation.

Terry Henry, a return attendee from California demonstrated Electroplating.  Once again, whoa! I am so going to try this.  Terry dazzled the group with her beautiful example beads while demonstrating the various steps of electroplating from start to finish.

Alexx demonstrated several techniques, one of the coolest – making twisties with a power drill.

Every night there was Open Torch time where the sign up sheet was always full.  Some of us trying the techniques demonstrated during the day.

The food was simple, tasty and well prepared with 3 planned meals a day and munchies available throughout the day.

As in previous years, there was a Show & Sell or Trade area set up as well as an auction table.

Many thanks to Andrea and the team that organized this event.  The T-shirts were a great idea, I love mine and thank you to all the volunteers that helped to make this a great event.

Whistler Molten Experience features

Glass bead artists from far and wide assemble at this exclusive retreat. Our event may be little, but it’s not small.  The tickets are precious and few, and those lucky enough to get registered in time will have an experience they’ll not soon forget.

Held at a private resort in the famous resort municipality of Whistler, BC, it is only one and a half hour drive northwest of Vancouver.

The lodge sits on the shores of tranquil glacier-fed Green Lake. It’s a peaceful, meditative location full of glass-crazed artists, all sharing their talents, techniques and stories throughout a magical weekend. What more could a glass adventurer ask for?

There will also be special demos, open-torch stations to play at, and an area for selling, swapping and hanging out. All meals are included in the fee, so you are free to just relax, feel inspired and be with friends who share your love of glass bead making.
