Member Survey Results: Thanks for your Input!

In May we asked Pyros members to complete a short online survey to help us (the Executive) plan for the future. We heard back from 20 members (out of 50, so 40%) and once we crunched all your feedback we discovered some clear themes and suggestions.

The highlights are:

  • The members who responded to the survey are most likely to have been Pyros members for 6 years or more. 40% of respondents have been members for 6-10 years and 35% have been members for over 10 years. We are grateful to the dedication of these longstanding members!
  • Community, friendship, and skill sharing drew respondents to the Pyros. Respondents said the opportunity to be around people with similar interests, sharing skills and techniques, and being in a creative environment are all positive aspects of Pyros membership. We have to agree!
  • Most respondents have participated in Beer & Beads meetings (in-person and/or online), the Bling! show, our AGM, and Beads of Courage activities. Respondents missed having in-person meetings during the pandemic, especially when that meant a lack of demos.
  • There is strong support among respondents for Pyros to offer beadmaking challenges, online demos, de-stash events and tech talks. 80% of respondents would like to see online demos by Pyros members and by guest artists. 90% would like to see de-stash events where members can buy, sell and trade tools and glass. And 85% would like to have tech talks on specific aspects of beadmaking that aren’t demos.

The next steps are:

The Executive have gone through the survey results in detail, and even as you read this we are planning new and fun activities.

We are taking action immediately by including both a demo and a de-stash event in the July Beer & Beads at Joanne Carter’s studio. Look to your Pyros newsletter for the date and location.

We are going to put together a calendar for upcoming Beer & Beads meetings so you can know what to expect several months in advance. The calendar will be on the Pyros website and on our private page on Facebook.

We are discussing the best way to offer beadmaking challenges, and will announce that as soon as possible.

If you would like to help out with any of these activities, please send an email to info(at)

Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey; we really appreciate it!
